DIVISIONAL INFORMATION
NVVA comprises six Divisions:
• SELECT • select.director@nvva.com Draws top players from the Northern Virginia region in each age bracket to
form a dedicated group of volleyball players aspiring to play
at the highest levels nationally. There is a significant commitment
in terms of practice time (3 times per week) and travel (at
least every other weekend). Due to the commitment level, players
may be asked to limit outside activities that would interfere.
The Select season will run from December into June or early
July, culminating at a National event. Some age groups will
attend several National Qualifying events, as well as other
top-level overnight tournaments. These players will be seen
by potential college recruiters at many/most of their tournaments.
Last season's teams played in over 200 uniformed games on
over 20 dates.
• ALEXANDRIA •
The Alexandria Division draws players from the city of Alexandria,
Arlington, Alexandria county, and several neighboring counties.
Alexandria is planning on four club teams this season, including
a 13s, 14s, 15s, and 17s. The coaching staff at Alexandria
is comprised of high school and house program coaches with
years of experience developing core skills and fundamentals
to new and seasoned players. This is Alexandria's inaugural
season, and hopes to expand in the coming years.
• FAIRFAX • fairfax.director@nvva.com
Draws players from all of Fairfax County who will have numerous opportunities
to play. The Fairfax Division is projected to have approximately 15 teams. Most
age groups offer two levels of play, with the top tier teams at 16s, 17s, & 18s
attending a National Qualifying event for exposure to a higher level of play and
will be seen by potential college recruiters. Players
will receive top-of-the-line instruction from a seasoned coaching staff. Last
season saw all of the Fairfax teams in each age group "medal" in regional
action. Several teams won divisional titles at the Regional Championships. Most teams will
play in over 100 uniformed games. The Fairfax Division will continue to
host several local tournaments this year.
• LOUDOUN • loudoun.director@nvva.com
Fed by a very successful house program, the Loudoun Division will field
approximately 15 teams this season, covering all age groups. The Loudoun Division has
numerous returning coaches and will have excellent practice and playing facilities.
Most age groups
will offer two levels of play, with the top tier teams at 16s, 17s, & 18s
attending a National Qualifying event for exposure to a higher level of play and
will be seen by potential college recruiters. Loudoun teams
have enjoyed increasing success over the years. Most teams will
play in over 100 uniformed games. The Loudoun Division will continue to
host many local tournaments this year.
• SKYLINE • skyline.director@nvva.com
The Skyline Division draws players from many successful high school and middle
school programs in Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
Some of these high school players are from Sherando, Millbrook,
James Wood, Strasburg, Hedgesville, and Mussellman High School.
The division has five teams this season including two 15s
teams, two 16s teams, and a 17s team. The coaching staff at
Skyline provides strong instruction and we have had players
from our programs become players at Potomac State, James Madison
University, and join the select teams of NVVA. Our staff has
helped foster the growth of volleyball in the northwestern
part of Virginia and truly enjoys coaching volleyball. The
Skyline program is growing and is looking forward to expanding
each year. This year teams will attend the Capitol Hill Classic
and the Shamrock Festival, while also attending local single
day tournaments.
• BOYS • boys.director@nvva.com
NVVA continues our efforts to expand boys' volleyball in Fairfax and Loudoun
Counties. We plan to offer teams at the 14s, 15s, 16s, & 17s level this year.
We continue to attempt to have practice space centrally located
for all players. Last year saw outstanding performances from the teams,
including the 16s team competing at Nationals. Like last year, most
tournaments will be held either in southern Virginia or southern Pennsylvania.
