Notes on 2008 Season:
Congratulations to the Select 13s for a good finish playing mostly 14s teams at the 2nd Annual 13/14 Spring Madness tournament. The team defeated MVSA Twisters 14s, Kinetic VBC 14s, and FVC 14s in pool play to finish 1st off their net. They defeated NVVA Fairfax 13 Black in the Semi finals and then faced a solid Metro American 14 Travel team in the finals. They competed very well against the Metro Travel team and finished runner up in the Gold division.
The team continues to excel this season, by finishing 3rd at the CHRVA Open Regional Championship. They were seeded 2nd going into the tournament and “took care of business” during the day. They went 8-0 in pool play. However, the other net came out differently then expected. The #1 seeded team, Brandywine, came off 2nd on their net. So the 1st and 2nd seeded teams faced each other in the semi finals. The girls were really fired up to play them, but came out sluggish in the 1st game after a 2 hr break between pool play and the semi finals. The Spike Girlz came out recharged though in the 2nd game with a new determination. They played really hard, but came just shy of pushing the match to a deciding game suffering a tough loss to an excellent Brandywine team, 19-25, 22-25. Although they didn’t come out of the tournament with the bid to Nationals, the Select 13s team has so much to be proud of! So far this season, they have a match record of 44-15 and all of the girls have tremendously improved their volleyball skills. Great job Spike Girlz! The club, parents and coaches are so proud of all of your hard work and determination! We are looking forward to a strong showing at East Coast Championship to finish off our season!
