NVVA Dominates Region!

NVVA Boys Teams, Open Teams and ICE Teams set the standard for the Region sending 7 Teams to Nationals with additional bids available. NVVA 15′s Open takes the Gold at Club Regionals and 17′s Open are Silver Runner-Up.

On the Road to Nationals it seems regional history was made every time an I.C.E. team took the court over the past two weekends. This past Saturday, not only did I.C.E. 13-1 dominate the competition in winning the 13’s regional championship, but they became part of CHRVA history as they helped NVVA establish an unprecedented three year record of success.  I.C.E 13-1 became the 11th NVVA team to qualify for USAV Nationals over that time, eclipsing the record set three years back by VA Elite when it sent 10 teams to nationals over a three year span.

So why rest? When I.C.E. 16-1 and 16-2 took the court at Sunday’s regional championship they had the opportunity to make even more history and they didn’t disappoint.  Due to regional seeding rules the I.C.E. teams had to face-off against each other in the quarter-finals.   In the most competitive match of the day 16-1 outlasted 16-2 in a grueling three sets (26-24, 22-25, 16-14). 16-1 then fought through some injuries and went on to take the championship.

The 16’s victory not only padded the three year success mark, but also allowed NVVA to become the first club in CHRVA history to send five teams to nationals. MVSA, VA Elite, and NVVA have each sent four teams in the past, but this year’s five I.C.E. teams will be difficult to match.

In the first year of fully implementing the training program that is at the heart of I.C.E. NVVA’s top division proved nothing less than dominating at the regional championships.

NVVA 18′s Boys win TWICE in one weekend

The NVVA Boys 18′s team had a gold-filled weekend playing in two single day events back-to-back and winning them both.  Unlike a multi-day event where you play in waves – these were two marathon slugfests clocking in at roughly 12 hours apiece.  The first event was a CHRVA Mens Silver tournament – and the NVVA Boys won it all going 8-2.  The 18′s then followed that up by winning the Gold Cup at the George Mason University Invitational.  The boys went 10-3 at GMU while playing with only 6 players and their libero.  It was both exhausting and exhilarating.  Great job, guys!
