NVVA Sends 7 Teams to Nationals

NVVA sent 7 Teams to the United States of America Volleyball (USAV) National Championships. This is the largest number of teams sent by any one club in the Chesapeake Region. This includes 2 boy’s teams and 5 girl’s teams. This success is a direct result of the incredible dedication and talent of ALL the players at NVVA and our coaches.

In the Boy’s Division NVVA sent the 14-National team and the 15-National Team both in the Open Division.  As representatives of the CHRVA Region, both NVVA teams finished in the Top 20. The 14-National finished 20th and 15-National finished 11th  The 15-National team’s finish is the highest finish at USAV Nationals for the CHRVA Region. The NVVA Boys program has displayed significant success in both indoor (top 11, and 20 at Nationals) and in beach volleyball within the region.  Members of the boys program have won MAV Juniors for 3 years running.  This year NVVA boys have won Men’s AA, Men’s A, Men’s, B, and Juniors at MAV events.  7 of our boys were selected for Beach HP camps.   No CHRVA club to date has displayed this level of success in their boys program.

In the Girl’s Division, NVVA sent 5 girls I.C.E. teams: 13-1, 14-1, 14-2, 15-1, 16-1.  Two out of the 5 teams placed within the top 20. The NVVA family is very proud of all the teams that made it to Columbus and their finishes.  The 13-1 (41st) in the National Division, 14-1 (18th) in the National Division, 14-2 (18th) in the American Division, 15-1 (29th) in the American Division, and 16-1 (35th) in the National Division.  Congratulations to all of the Team Coaches, and Master Coaches for their efforts and hard work in the gym to bring these teams to be able to compete at the National level. Only one other team from the Northern VA/Metro Area made it to USAV Nationals and that was NOVA 17-1 (37th) in the American Division. On the Beach Volleyball side, One NVVA ICE player was selected to play on the CHRVA Regional Beach HP U19 team (one of only 4 teams which qualified).

Now that the club season is officially over, the coaches and athletes can get a little rest and begin to enjoy their short summer break before the next High School season begins.  Let us take time to reflect on what we were able to accomplish as a club in 2012 and to be thankful for the staff, athletes, and parent’s commitment and dedication to make this a banner year for NVVA. While lying, with your eyes closed, in that warm summer sun it is not too early to dream about what we will be able to accomplish together in 2013.

Ken has been involved in youth athletics since college – coaching baseball, basketball, track and field, softball as well as volleyball. He has been instrumental over the last couple years in developing strategies for growing and strengthening NVVA’s volleyball offerings and actively worked with management, NVVA administration and the senior coaching staff to implement those strategies.  This, combined with over 26 years of diverse government service (ranging from Systems Engineering, Program Management, Technology Director, and Field Operations), including extensive budget and personnel management experience, will serve NVVA’s needs very well as we move forward.
