Loudoun Youth Volleyball

This is the information page for Loudoun Youth Volleyball (LYV). It is NOT for the NVVA VVC Middle School League. There is more information below explaining the difference. Should you have any questions, there are phone numbers below.

Loudoun Youth Volleyball - an NVVA division

FALL 2013 SEASON

Loudoun Youth Volleyball (LYV) is a recreational volleyball league serving boys and girls in grades 5-12 who reside in Loudoun County, VA.  LYV is a division of the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association (NVVA) and is affiliated with Loudoun County’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS).

Loudoun Youth Volleyball or the NVVA/VVC Middle School League?

NVVA also sponsors another youth volleyball league called the NVVA/VVC Middle School League.  The NVVA/VVC league is designed for players who live outside of Loudoun County.  The NVVA/VVC Middle School League is a completely different league than Loudoun Youth Volleyball and it should not be confused with Loudoun Youth Volleyball.   Loudoun Youth Volleyball is affiliated with Loudoun County Parks and Recreation – with teams aligned with Loudoun County Middle Schools.  The NVVA/VVC league is not affiliated with Loudoun County Parks and Recreation and does not use Loudoun County schools.

For Loudoun players who might be interested, please note that the NVVA/VVC league is open to all. LYV games are played on Saturday and the NVVA/VVC Middle School League games are played on Sunday – so Loudoun players may play in both leagues if they desire. See NVVA’s home page for more info.

LYV Registration is NOW OPEN  click here to register

Sign up early

Like most recreation leagues, LYV depends upon volunteers to coach.  We can only serve as many players as we have coaches for.  While we do not anticipate a shortage of coaches – we do feel it is important to let participants know our policy in case we don’t get enough coaches.  If LYV is unable to secure enough qualified volunteers to coach – players will get refunded based upon the division they play in and the order in which their registration was completed.  The last player registered will be the first player let go.  Signing up early increases your chances of getting on a team.

Fall 2013 Player Fees

Registration Fees

LYV offers an “Early Bird” discount:

Register and pay on or before August 1, 2013 – pay $100.00

Register and pay after August 1, 2013 – pay $125.00

Loudoun County Parks, Recreation, and Community Services imposes a fee of $12.50 per player to participate in a Loudoun County affiliated recreation league.  This fee, which goes to PRCS,  is included in the registration fees listed above.

Registration will be open from June 1, 2013 – September 5, 2013. Participants must be registered before midnight on 09/05/13.

Please note – registrations are not considered complete until payment has been received.  To be eligible for the early bird discounted fee – payment must be received no later than 08/01/13.  Payment must be received before the Skills Assessments at your school in order to try out.

There are two options for payment. Payment may be made on-line with a credit card or you can pay by check – either in person at the Virginia Volleyball Center or through the mail:

Sterling, VA, 20166

Be sure to include the participants name and LYV on subject line.

LCPS Post-Labor Day Opening

Loudoun County Public Schools open on Tuesday 09/03/13 – the day after Labor Day. This is a later opening than we have become accustomed to in Loudoun County. As a result – the first week of LYV will be compressed. Open gyms and skills assessments will both be held the first week that school is open, with practices beginning on Monday 09/09/13.

Coaches Training/Clinics

LYV is a recreation league that relies on volunteers to coach. We offer a series of coaching clinics, training video’s/DVD’s, and printed handbooks with practice plans for prospective coaches. If you have any interest in coaching a team – LYV can train you. LYV’s clinics are led by former Brazilian Junior National Team member and NVVA Coach Rodrigo Gomes, NVVA Technical Director and current Marymount University Men’s Head Coach Shawn Patchell, and other highly-qualified NVVA coaches.

Coaches Clinic Schedule coming soon.

All clinics are held at NVVA’s training center:

Virginia Volleyball Center (VVC)
45685 Oakbrook Court
Sterling, VA, 20166

Pre- Season Open Gyms

Not sure if volleyball is for you? Come to the free open gym night at your school and try it out. Every middle school in the county will host one night of Open Gym.  If you are already registered in our database for the Fall 2013 season – all you have to do is show up. If you are not registered you can still attend. Just make sure a parent accompanies you into the gym to sign-in. Supervision and coaching is provided. Open gym schedule coming soon

Skills Assessments

Skills Assessments are how players get placed on a team at their school. Participants must attend at least one of the two skills assessment sessions. If you are unable to do so – you must contact the representative at your school prior to the scheduled dates. Skills Assessment Schedules coming soon.

LYV Referee’s

LYV does not employ an officiating association to referee their games.  Instead – we are proud to use qualified HS aged volleyball players to referee.  Many HS volleyball players play on USA Volleyball (USAV) club teams.  These club players are required to get certified and referee matches throughout the club season.  LYV will give preference to players who have undergone USAV’s referee training program – but  the USAV training is not required in order to be a ref for LYV.  If you are interested in serving as a paid referee for the 2013 season – please contact Joyce Haak, LYV’s referee coordinator, at lyv.ref.assignor@nvva.com.   There will be a meeting and training clinic for all referee candidates – exact time, date and location are yet to be determined.
