We are excited to announce that former Qatar Olympic Men’s Beach Volleyball Head Coach, Pepê Costa, has joined NVVA. Coach Costa will be the new Head Coach of our 15 Select Team and also our 3 Beach Club Teams. Costa will be the technical manager of NVVA's new Beach Volleyball division which will include youth indoor beach clinics, group training classes, and our Beach Club Teams.

"I have been talking to Pepê since the last Olympic games in Rio about the possibility of adding his knowledge and curriculum to our staff. I brought him to NVVA in April to run a beach volleyball camp and it was a huge success. Luckily things worked out when he decided to not be with the Qatar Olympic team for the next cycle and we were able to bring him on board. Pepê's coaching resumé goes along perfectly with our philosophy going forward at NVVA to provide the best coaching training, not only in Northern Virginia but the whole country. His experience building youth national team programs, and coaching at the Olympic games, will be a huge asset to us."

–Rodrigo Gomes, NVVA President/CEO

Pedro Paulo “Pepê” Costa played professional beach volleyball in Brazil for four years and has more than 18 years coaching experience. Coach Costa has coached for upper-level teams in Brazil, Paraguay, and Qatar. He was the coach and coordinator of the Paraguayan Beach Volleyball Development Project where he was able to develop players who had potential into successful athletes. He was also the Head Coach for the Qatar Beach National team when they placed 5th at the World Championships and not only qualified for their first ever Olympics, but also placed an impressive 9th place. This summer, he was the coach for Spain’s U18-U22 National Teams.

Coach Costa’s main goal is to identify athletes’ strengths and weaknesses to teach them a more improved, efficient way to play the game. Coach Costa places ball control and technique as the most important skills for athletes of all ages and strives to help them gain court awareness and reflexive technique.

NVVA is happy to welcome Coach Costa to our team of coaches and to have our athletes be able to train with someone with his types of experiences. We look forward to what this upcoming club volleyball season will bring!
