What is Club Volleyball?
At NVVA we define club volleyball as competitive teams for intermediate to advanced skill level athletes that are ready to invest more time and energy in volleyball. Club volleyball teams have a busier practice and tournament schedule and a longer season than recreational leagues.
If you are unfamiliar with club volleyball age groups and levels, don't worry, it's normal, and we are here to help.
Our Red Division is for athletes and families ready to participate in club volleyball but may not have the time to commit to a heavier practice and tournament schedule. Teams practice twice a week and play in events exclusively at our training facility (VVC).
Our Black Division is for athletes and families ready to commit to more weekly practices and longer-distance tournaments. Black Division teams practice three times per week and play in single day as well as multiple day events that are within driveable distances.
Our travel program is for U17 athletes and families that are committed to pursuing playing college volleyball. Travel teams practice three times per week, as well as play in single and multi-day events that are local as well as flying or driving .
Our X-Performance program is for high athletic and academic performing athletes that are committed to pursuing playing college volleyball. Athletes in this program will practice three to four times per week, participate in our conditioning program, and commit to pursue excellence in volleyball . XP teams play in single and multi-day events that are local as well as flying or driving .
Should I join a team?
Club volleyball is the perfect way to take your volleyball skills to the next level. It is ideal for athletes that have already had some experience playing and participating in leagues, camps, or clinics. Playing club volleyball is a 6 to 8 month commitment that requires weekly practices and weekend tournaments. Families should only consider participating if they fully understand and are willing to make the necessary commitments.
If you haven't played much volleyball before, we recommend that you participate in our Galaxy League or some of our camps or classes. Our coaches are always looking for talented athletes. If we see potential in you, one of our staff members will contact your family to discuss your following options, including club volleyball.
What are the costs?
Costs will depend on which team level better fits your athlete's abilities. At NVVA we divide our club teams into four different levels.
Red Division: teams that practice twice weekly and play in tournaments located at our training facility (VVC). The average cost is $400 per month.
Black Division: teams that practice three times per week and play tournaments further away but still within driving distance. The average cost is $675 per month.
Travel Division: teams that practice 3 times per week and play tournaments further away including flying destinations. The average cost is $900 per month.
X-Performance: the highest level of play at NVVA. Teams practice volleyball three times per week, have conditioning twice weekly, and play tournaments further away, including flying distances. The average cost is $450-$575 per month*
* The X-Performance program is NVVA's flagship program, created to allow any player committed to volleyball to participate. The fees for this program are lower due to sponsorship from NVVA and other partners. Athletes that participate in this program are required to maintain academic and athletic excellence and to volunteer in our community.
What level is best for me?
The best level is the one that fits the athlete's skills, abilities or potential, family budget, and ability to commit time to practice and tournament days. Athletes will be invited to a team by a coach/NVVA staff invitation or by participating in our tryout process. Either way, we will let you know what team level better fits your athlete. Accepting a position on a team is a big family decision and you should always make sure you have all your questions answered before committing. If you have any questions, please schedule time with our athlete success team.
Open tryouts usually take place in the first week of November. Our team formation process starts in the Summer and is finalized at the conclusion of Open Tryouts. During that time, Club Coaches observe new and current athletes throughout our programs and invite them to the most appropriate teams. Participating in our Summer and Fall programs helps you get noticed by our coaches and allows athletes an opportunity to familiarize themselves with our staff and potential teammates.
For those looking to attend our Open tryouts,
there is a $55 non-refundable open tryout fee
